The title of the post? The name of the most recent album of my favoritest artist: Brett Dennen.
Silly album title notwithstanding, it’s a great album. More upbeat than his previous, also awesome albums, it has caused me to break out into spontaneous (hopefully unobserved) dance on more than one occasion.
When his tour dates were announced in January, I was over the moon happy that he had a stop in Asheville, and it was on a Sunday night, so we could certainly arrange to be in town! The fact that it was the week leading up to a vacation was pure vanilla seven minute icing on the proverbial moist and decadent baked from scratch chocolate cake. What a great way to put me in the right frame of mind for a hard-earned four days away from work!
His musical performance was spot on, and got me dancing and grooving and I think Andy even managed to be a little less statuesque than usual. I was bummed that Mr. Dennen didn’t seem to really connect to the crowd – at all – or know what town he was in (c’mon, man!) but, for the most part, I was there for the music, and that I heard, and thoroughly enjoyed.
The last song he played was “Blessed”, a great way to top off an excellent evening. It kept the music in my heart and head through the long Monday workday (and beyond), and made me immune to stress or worry. I believe a Woo to the capital Hoo is in order for that one. “Blessed is this life, and I’m going to celebrate being alive!” And so I do, so I will.
