It takes a lot of work to get up to cyclo-cross speed, and I'm really not doing it right now. Cyclo-cross work, that is. Or, riding in general. I said that I was going to take it one race at a time, and when it stopped being fun, I would stop.
Well.... it's still fun (even though I am not as fast as I would like), but.... and maybe this is sleep deprivation talking.... I am finding it really hard to get excited about the amount of driving (tree-killing) I will have to do in the upcoming weeks to attain aforementioned levels of funness. Especially without dedicated travel buddies or teammates. (So I'm staying home this weekend - whee!)
That being said, Friday oct 7th I went down to Brevard to participate in the Zombie Bash Alley Cat race. Super de duperdee fun. I tooled around on the singlespeed with Ddubb, Diana, Nate and Abby Wyatt, which is pretty much my extended family so yippee! We all dressed like Zombies and had a marvelous time, zipping around Brevard and yelling "brains" at every turn. Mmmm..... brains! Nate and Abby drank coffee sized mugs of jack daniels, we dug acorns out of a zombie squirrel's intestines, played croquet, and danced Thriller repeatedly until Nate and Abby satisfied the alcohol drinking test.
I managed to bring the fun into my office, before hand, as I enlisted the help of some of my colleagues to enable my zombie makeover. Some bike testers over at Bike magazine happened to show up for the ride so they captured a lot o' fun images from the night. Check it out over at bike mag! http://www.bikemag.com/gallery/bike-bible-team-does-zombie-squirrel-alleycat/
Much fun was had by all, and more fun will be had going forward....
